Event description
Come and question our elected representatives about why finances are such a problem for Midlothian Council and what can be done about it.

About this Event

The first hour of the ENCC meeting in October will be dedicated to a debate between attendees and Councillors John Hackett (Labour) and Peter Smaill (Conservative) on this important topic. The original SNP panellist, Colin Beattie, has withdrawn from the event and the Midlothian SNP group has declined to participate.

The debate will ask three questions of each participant and then invite follow-up from the audience:

1. How has Local Authority Financing for Midlothian changed over the last 5 years and what are the reasons for this?

2. What can Midlothian council do and what can the Scottish government do, to improve the financial situation?

3. Why does Midlothian have to accept such high increases in housing development, without the infrastructure financing needed to support it?

Doors open at 1800 for refreshments, registration and chatting. The debate will be followed, at 1900, by a meeting of the Eskbank & Newbattle Community Council.
