Local Charities Day Skilled Volunteering Workshop
Fri 16 December 2016, 14:30 – 17:30 GMT
Do you want to increase the confidence, skills and commercial expertise of one of the Capital's great local charities this Christmas?
We are inviting you to join us and help a selection of London’s most promising local charities offering them YOUR time and skills for an afternoon of strategic support and business planning.
The event will be followed by a drinks reception with an opportunity to network and share learnings.
What is it?
Local Charities Day takes place on 16 December 2016. Led by the Office for Civil Society as part of DCMS, the day will celebrate and shine a spotlight on the work of small local charities and community groups. The main focus is to provide local charities with a platform to promote the fantastic work they are doing and the many, varied benefits they bring to people, communities and good causes.
What will be the format for the afternoon?
Volunteers will be placed in pairs (designed to ensure a good blend of experience and skills) and matched with one of the Capital's great local charities for an afternoon of learning, brainstorming and business planning. Each charity will come to the event with their planned activities for 2017 and any key organisational challenges they are facing.
What support can I offer?
The professional volunteer team will work with the charity throughout the afternoon and advise on their key activities, using their commercial experience to ensure the charity is maximising their potential and directing resources to where they are most needed. Each team can work within their own area of expertise. Trained GG facilitators will be on hand to support throughout and a suggested support structure to follow will be available.
What type of skills do I need?
We do not prescribe skills for in person volunteer events, Our experience tells us that when working with the SME Charity sector all skills are useful especially in a 2 hour advice sessions.Every fresh perspective and idea adds value. GlobalGiving will make the volunteer matches and charity matches based on the pool of volunteers, companies and charities we have registered to attend.
What will I gain?
Experience of a unique approach to volunteering- This practical skills oriented approach to volunteering is useful to experience and provides an opportunity to volunteer your skills in a practical fun way whilst deliveting valuable social impact.
An opportunity to network with like minded individuals commited to social change- Connect with other passionate business professionals to colloborate and share skills and knowledge and commercial exepertise with those than need it most.
