Local Energy - 1.30-4.30pm, Wed 16 November at Fairmilehead Church, 1a Frogston Rd West, Edinburgh EH10 7AA.
Third of six "Edinburgh Conversations - raising awareness and laying foundations for a Low Carbon Edinburgh". To be held nearby to Scottish Water's main offices at Fairmilehead. At the crossroads just before leaving the city - Lothian Buses 11, 15 and the 4 take you to the door.
Bill Elliot and Rachel Picken from Scottish Water will share their experiences of harnessing local water systems to generate electricity. As the largest electricity consumer in Scotland hear how Scottish Water has invested in local hydro generation to power their water treatment works and looks to solar power too.
Angus Murdoch, Waste Strategy Officer with City of Edinburgh Council will update us on the new Millerhill Waste to Energy facility.
Anne Schiffer, Friends of the Earth Community Energy campaigner will set the wider context of communities across Europe taking control themselves.
Then participants will be have opportunity to discuss round table style the main concerns arising from these introductory remarks. Specific subject emerging will be addressed and hopefully some themes will emerge for further study before we break at 4.30pm.
Practitioners, concerned citizens and students are all warmly invited to this free event.
