10.00 Purpose: Michael Wood, Local Growth Advisor, NHS Confederation & Deputy Local Growth Consultant, HEFCE

The Industrial Strategy White Paper will emphasise the importance of place-based initiatives, yet for these to truly work local leaders and teams need to work across sector boundaries in new and challenging ways. This Module will help NHS, university and local government officials build a better understanding of the organisational and cultural differences that exist between these key sectors and to identify practical opportunities for collaborative working across anchor institutions.

10.15 Parallel workshops exploring the three key sectors – delegates to attend two 'back to back'

Experienced representatives of the three sectors will lead presentations of the legal, financial and structural characteristics that mark their sector as unique, including a specific focus on current priorities and the longer-term direction of travel.

13.45 Case Study: ‘The New Keele Deal:’ Paul Hodgkinson, Head of Local Growth, and Clare O’Neill, Head of Partnerships Development (Health), Keele University

The New Keele Deal is a plan for £70million of investment by Keele University, Staffordshire County Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust and the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership to exploit the potential of Keele University’s world-leading research and facilities.This session will hear from some of the architects of the Deal, including a specific focus on the added value of what the partnership can achieve and how they tackled some of the cultural issues associated with the various sectors.
