Event description
Talk about Cramlington miners' strike of 1865.

About this event

On 17 June 1865 the miners of the pits at Cramlington went on strike for an increase in wages. They were paid 25% less than other miners in the area. As the industrial action dragged on for months, violence broke out and pit owners took drastic action.

This talk looks at the strike of 1865, its immediate consequence and its long term reverberations.
