Event description

Description

The mission landscape of Britain argues for a variety of expressions of mission and church in order to reach a diverse society. Pioneers offer a creative and innovative approach that compliments the established ministry of parish and other congregational churches. Pioneer minstry is a growing movement, affirmed by many mainstream churches, but still trying to find its place within them.

This day is for church leaders who recognise the potential and value of pioneer ministry and want to create space for pioneers and pioneer ministry in their context - as well as church leaders who are already overseeing the ministry of a pioneer. How can pioneer enabling thrive alongside the demands of established forms of church? How do the two relate to one another? How can we give pioneers freedom to pioneer and hold them accountable? How can we better argue for the space for pioneer ministry within the structures of the church?

We are being joined for the day by the Rev Canon Phil Potter, Archbishop's Missioner and Leader of Fresh Expressions. Phil has years of experience of enabling pioneers, during his 20 years as vicar in Merseyside, then as Director for Pioneer Ministry in the Diocese of Liverpool and latterly as the leader of the national Fresh Expressions team. Other contributors during the day are: Rev Greg Bakker, vicar of Sholing in Southampton, a training incumbent to two pioneer curates, and a passionate advocate of the enabling of pioneer ministry in a parish context, Rev Paul Bradbury, Pioneer Hub Co-ordinaator for the South Central RTP and an ordained pioneer minister.

St Laurence's is easily accessible by train or car. Parking options include the train station http://www.apcoa.co.uk/parking-in/reading/reading-station-mscp.html and Oracle shopping centre, which are both a short walk away - http://www.theoracle.com/visitor-info/parking. Reading town centre is well served by public transport links; the main line train station is a short 5 minute walk away and a number of buses regularly stop outside of the church: http://www.reading-buses.co.uk/maps/

A light lunch will be provided as part of the day.
