About this event

Science & Tech • Science

Every home is shaped not just by the care it provides inside, but also by the community around it. Children’s Homes Regulations require providers to identify and assess risks in the local area — from crime, exploitation hotspots, and transport links to wider community influences — and evidence how these risks are managed.

This interactive 3-hour online session will guide participants through the regulations, Ofsted’s expectations, and real-world case studies. Delegates will learn how to gather intelligence, link assessments to individual children’s plans, and ensure risk assessments remain live, reflective documents. Practical tools and templates will be shared to help participants create location risk assessments that are meaningful, evidence-based, and inspection-ready.

Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the statutory requirements for location risk assessments and how Ofsted evaluates compliance during inspections.
  2. Identify and assess local area risks (e.g. crime, transport, exploitation hotspots, community influences) and link findings directly to children’s individual care plans.
  3. Analyse case studies from inspection and practice to explore how poor or strong assessments impact safeguarding outcomes.
  4. Develop robust, evidence-based location risk assessments that meet Ofsted’s expectations for being thorough, current, and linked to safeguarding practice.
  5. Embed a culture of reflection and review, ensuring that location risk assessments are not just documents but active safeguarding tools, reviewed in response to incidents, intelligence, and professional feedback.
