Lockdown Jazz Sessions #18
Event Information
About this event
We've had a break to give the mothership a service, and we are back to kick of a second season of Lockdown Jazz Sessions!
Lockdown Jazz Sessions are fortnightly gigs performed by musicians from their own homes. Using zoom, the audience has the chance to be present and together at the online gig, even unmuting themselves to applaud.
First Set: Alex Lockheart
Bamzu organiser Alex Lockheart will be stepping out from behind the Lockdown Jazz Sessions Scenes to stream a live solo guitar set from his home in Cardiff. Playing his own music alongside beloved ballads and contemporary tunes, Alex will be bringing his sounds back to the Bamzu airwaves after we last heard them in his duo with Michael Blanchfield back in session #9.
Second Set: Xhosa Cole
Winner of the 2018 BBC Young Jazz Musician of the year and of the 2020 Jazz FM’s Breakthrough Act of the Year, tenor saxophonist Xhosa Cole playing a live solo set from his home in London. Having started his career in the community arts programmes of Birmingham, Xhosa has gone on to perform twice at the BBC Proms, composed for the RIpieno Players String Orchestra and recorded saxophone for Mahalia’s debut album ‘Love and Compromise’, all alongside studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.
