Description

How has collecting craft changed? Why is it important and how do you get started?

About this Event

Clement Greenberg’s medium-specificity gave name to the process of artists and makers manipulating features traditional to the nature of a particular medium or object. Craft is undergoing a similar aesthetic medium-specificity of sorts, where for the past 5 years the art market and desire to collect the medium have increasingly brought it into the realm of fine art. Confirming it as an important visual signifier of heritage, premium craft is now increasingly exhibited by public and private galleries – in addition to adorning the pages of online auction platforms such as artsy.

This panel will discuss how collecting craft has changed; consider its importance; and map out where to buy it.

On the panel:

This session is part of The Future of Craft, a London Craft Week event organised by Oxo Tower Wharf in collaboration with Design-Nation and Future Icons. For full event details click here.
