Winds of Change (Act II)
In 2007, the chill winds of the global financial crash swept across the business landscape. Today, we face new winds of change in the form of – Brexit, Trump, Middle East and the EU.
What does this all mean for UK business and the London construction sector?
In the digital changes of the 1980’s, a new construction niche was born in the UK. It travelled initially from New York but quickly morphed into new London based companies who satisfied the demand for fast track, customer focused construction services, demanded by the financial sector clients.
New terms such as shell & core, construction management, Cat A and design management were introduced into the vernacular and generated improved margins for these companies at a lower level of risk. Companies grew and new ones were launched to satisfy this demand.
In this environment clients started to look at space differently, increasingly being targeted by the direct sales methods of the design & build contractor who offered a hassle free, one stop shop to the fit-out process. This trend has continued with an increasing acceptance that the D&B offer is acceptable currency in the wonderful, wacky world of fit-out.
