Description

Please join us for some drinks and food at the London Head of Year Teach Meet. This is a new event set up for Heads of Year working in London schools.

We want to create and develop a network that provides a platform for sharing and supporting one another’s practice as HOYs. Events such as these will share best practice, resources and ideas for running effective tutor teams, effectively dealing with behaviour and any other key areas of a HOY’s responsibilities.

KEY NOTE SPEAKER

We are delighted to confirm that our key note speaker is Ciaran Thapar! Ciaran Thapar is a youth worker and writer based in south London. He has worked in secondary schools, community centres and prisons in London for a range of organisations, such as The Access Project, Franklin Scholars, and Marcus Lipton community centre in Brixton, South London. He typically writes about social justice, youth perspectives and music for The Guardian and GQ.

Confirmed speakers include:.

  • Reuben Moore- Reuben is currently the Executive Director of Programmes at the education charity, Teach First. He has been with Teach First for eight years, first as Local Director and then leading Initial Teacher Education work with universities. Before that, he spent 12 years as teacher and leader in schools and higher education
  • Jay Crawford- One of the three Senior business leaders within Fix Up a company dedicated to motivating and inspiring both students and teachers in the educational sector.
  • Amanda Roper- Amanda is Head of Year 11 at Chace Community School, Enfield. She has an indepth understand of the role and has been Head of Year for 3 years running.

Attend if you're interested in collaborating with your peers and interested in hearing about the below.

  • are currently in your first year as a head of year and want to share your experiences
  • have experience in running an effective tutor team
  • want to share best practice in conducting meetings with challenging parents
  • have set up and run focus groups for some of your challenging pupils
  • effectively balance your HOY and teaching responsibilities
  • conduct effective year group assemblies
  • have any other area of practice that you’d like to share

All SPEAKER ticket holders will be contacted by Chloe Cawthorne one week prior to the event to get your PowerPoints for the presentation.

Timings:

17:30 – Arrival and welcome drinks

18:00 – Presentation from key not speaker

18:10 – TeachMeet begins

19:15 – Network drinks until 19:30

We so look forward to meeting you all and sharing some of our experiences in our roles. Afterwards, we will make our way to a local pub to continue our chats and sharing of any horror stories!
