Event description

Description

‘London In Slow Motion’ might sound like a contradiction in terms. After all, London has a reputation as one of the fastest cities on earth - a place that's constantly changing, full of rushing people.

But this surprising guided walk is a chance to think about the city afresh. We'll rediscover London as a slow place, and see how it feels and what we notice when we slow ourselves down.

We'll start the walk at Cleopatra's Needle, right on the River Thames. From there, we'll explore some of the most hectic parts of the capital - the Strand, Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden - in search of pockets of calm. We'll find out about the area’s slow history: how it has changed over hundreds, thousands and millions of years. We'll enjoy the liberating and rebellious side to dawdling in a place addicted to speed, and hear about those London rebels who use slowness as a strategy. We'll consider how we might transform the capital by slowing it down. And we'll round things off with a taste of slow food.

Hear tour-guide Rosie introduce the walk in this 3 minute podcast.

Walk starts: by Cleopatra's Needle, Victoria Embankment, a few minutes walk from Embankment tube and Temple tube. It ends near Covent Garden.

Suitable for: Adults and young people aged 16 and over. The walk involves going up and down steps and up a steep hill.

Maximum group size: 10.

Gift vouchers are available for this and other Dotmaker walks. The walks are also available to private groups.
