Event description

In order to support the London Learning Disability Mortality Review NHS England are now seeking volunteers to take on the local reviewer role.

The local reviewer will be responsible for undertaking reviews of the deaths of people with learning disabilities who are registered with a GP in their local area. Unfortunately NHS England is unable to pay reviewers for taking on this role or provide back fill to their organisations.

The reviews will be undertaken using the web based LeDeR review system, with all review documents completed on line and any additional case notes and supporting paperwork stored securely within the LeDeR review system.

The local reviewer can be a health, social care or allied health professional. The role involves:

  • Attending a day’s training delivered by the LeDeR training team.

  • Receiving notifications of a death of a person with learning disabilities.

  • Completing an initial review of each death, based on a thorough understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities and their families.

  • Completing a multiagency review of these deaths where this is indicated.

  • Maintaining communication with the Local Regional Contact and LeDeR Programme as appropriate during the course of the review to update on progress and highlight any problems.

  • Writing an accurate and concise report of the review and complete any associated action plan.

  • Submitting the completed paperwork of the review to the Local Area Contact and the LeDeR Programme
