About this event
About MHPs
Mental Health Practitioners in general practice aim to provide advice and support for people with complex mental health needs, such as bipolar, psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorders, severe depression and anxiety, and a range of other mental illness. Mental Health Practitioner roles act as a bridge between general practice and mental health services to support people with mental illness to live well in their communities and to access further specialist support where needed.
They may support in many ways such as:
• Carrying out initial assessments and discussing options to self-mange conditions
• Supporting to access appropriate services and community resources
• Provide advice and time limited therapeutic interventions, where qualified
• Provide non-clinical support to help address wider needs, e.g. housing and employment needs
