Description

Greetings RGCS Londoners!

We would like to invite you to a RGCS research seminar at Cass Business School on April 24th at 3pm, room 2005.

We will have two presentations, on entrepreneurship and Fablabs, followed by discussions. It will also be a good opportunity to chat about what we could do with the RGCS chapter in London.

Our two presentations will be:

à Organizational Imprinting Beyond the Founding Phase

Authors: Lien de Cuyper (presenter), Bart Clarysse, Nelson Phillips

à Being fluid, being modern: Identifying practices that lead to effective interaction among permanent and temporary organisations

Authors: Maria Rita Micheli (IESEG School of Management), Amanda Shantz (Trinity College Dublin), Mario Campana (Goldsmiths, UoL / presenter), Marta Gasparin (University of Leicester).

Abstract: This research looks at organisations choose to engage in temporary collaborations with others. Although these collaborations can produce gains for permanent and temporary organisations, research has revealed that tensions arise at their interface. The main contribution of this paper lies in the identification of practices that are situated at this interface that facilitate the fluidity of permanent and temporary organisations. Specifically, using practice theory as a lens of analysis, we identified three shared practices: ‘doing culture’, ‘doing community’, and ‘doing value capture’. To generate these insights, we conducted 30 semi-structured interviews with actors connected to Fablabs across eight countries and the interviews are complemented with offline and online ethnographic observations and the examination of archival data. This paper contributes to discussions in temporary organisations, fluidity, and practice theory scholarships.

For those interested: we’ll go for drinks afterwards, OWEE-style of course (well in our context that may just mean that we’d have to walk a little to get to the drinks, but still, let’s call it OWEE-style).

We hope to see you all there! If you have any question do let me know.

If you are not from Cass, please inform us of your attendance so that we can add your name to the list to access the building.

All the best,

Adèle and Stefan
