Description
The Rotherhithe Peninsula was once a thriving area of docks bobbing with timber.
Join acclaimed environmental journalist Tony Aldous as he leads this engaging walk which will demonstrate how the landscape has been transformed: some docks remaining as picturesque lakes; tree-lined canals with nesting water fowl snaking past low-rise flats and houses; and Stave Hill (our “mountain”), though only 9m high, provides a fine viewing point over western docklands and the City. Back through recently restored Southwark Park, with memories of social reformers Ada and Alfred Salter, to a choice of riverside pubs and other refreshments at Old Rotherhithe village centre.
