London Sporting Club - Lunch with Sir Steve Redgrave
Thu 11 May 2017, 12:30 – 15:30 BST
Ever seen five Olympic gold medals, let alone touched them? That's 5 golds! Very few people in the history of sport can ever claim to have won so many which is why the London Sporting Club is delighted and honoured to have Sir Steve Redgrave as our lunch guest. One of the greatest Olympians this country has ever produced, if not the greatest, Sir Steve won five Olympic gold medals as a rower in five consecutive Games between 1984 and 2000, beginning in Los Angeles as part of a four, then again in Seoul in a pair, before teaming up with Sir Matthew Pinsent to win as a pair in Barcelona, again in Atlanta (Team GB's only gold medal at those Games) and finally in Sydney in a four. The BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner in 2000 and knighted in 2001, Sir Steve was also the last athlete to enter the London Olympic Stadium in 2012 bearing the torch. But there is much more to Sir Steve's story than "merely" being a multiple champion, including his incredible battle against illness and injury and a refusal to be beaten. This is far more than a sports story. Hear Sir Steve speak and learn about teamwork and motivation, inspiration and a winning mentality that refused to recognise defeat no matter what. Have your photo taken too with one of Britain's greatest sporting figures and be blinded by gold over a memorable lunch and a chance mingle with other notable sports stars.
