General Workshop Outline

Introductions

Theory Part – explaining and discussing the various workshop themes focusing on the principles of street photography with student contributions and questions.

By looking at and discussing the works of famous classic and contemporary photographers this session will provide you with an understanding of how street photography developed based on the new way of looking and method of working of each one of them. You will be engaging in a critical discussion about their photographs and reflecting on questions about what compositional approach it has been used, what the intentions of the photographer might be, what the images mean to you based on your own interpretation, and any other questions that might be generated by you.

Lunch Break

Play Time - theory into practice with individual and group feedback along the way

Engaging in playful and mindful activities as a practical brainstorming on the main issues raised from the first part of the workshop, you will be taking photographs implementing theory into practice.

You can work on specific tasks I will be giving you or you can choose to shoot freely. I will be guiding you when needed and giving you practical tips on how to achieve your desired results by controlling your camera on manual or semi-automatic mode.

I will be giving you feedback along the practice commenting on your photographs in a non-judgemental environment, suggesting new ideas, reflecting on your creative process of ‘seeing mindfully’ the world in the streets and articulating it into your own words.

Summing up on the workshop themes, leaving your workshop feedback, and suggesting ideas for further workshops based on your needs.

Handouts

After the end of the workshop I will be sending you e-handouts by email

Camera guidelines

A DSLR or mirrorless camera is ideally the best type of camera you can have if you want to really explore and experiment with photography. However, all camera devices are welcome, including smartphones or tablets and you will still benefit from the workshop

She has taught for Phoenix Arts Space and Evolution Arts in Brighton, WexPhotoVideo in London among other organisations and she has been a visiting lecturer at the University for the Creative Arts and Loxdale English Centre.

In her artistic practice, she is not only using the photographic medium to produce a record and a document of the world, which is what we usually expect to see in a photograph. She is also using it to question the nature of photography and to cause tension in what we are looking at. She is playing between representation and abstraction. She was selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2008 exhibition among numerous solo and group shows.
