Come and join The Big Issue Foundation’s London to Amsterdam cycle challenge
Following 8 successful London to Paris rides we are excited to be hosting our second London to Amsterdam challenge! Be one of our team as we cycle 150 miles in two days to reach the beautiful city of Amsterdam, where we will be sure to celebrate our arrival!
This is an ideal itinerary for everyone, from cycling hobbyist and commuters to those who are new to cycling. The flat terrain will be a real benefit to those new to cycling once we reach the Netherlands, and it will also make a fantastic fast ride for the seasoned tour rider seeking their next exciting challenge in a country that is ideal for cycling. There will be professional cycling guides who will accompany you along the route to look out for your safety and offer support. From our Olympic Park start location, we begin steadily riding from the busy London suburbs and it won’t be long before we are clear of the urban sprawl and out into the Essex countryside, riding onto the historic towns of Chelmsford and Colchester. We will ride through the country lanes of Essex, where there will be some rolling hills as we pass through idyllic villages and past beautiful woods. However, we should also be prepared for the occasional tricky junction, or busy stretch, on this 75 mile day.
Our final destination town for the day is the port town of Harwich and the point we join our ferry and overnight quarters. Before boarding we will have time to take dinner at a local restaurant after which you will be able to freshen up in your en-suite cabin. After our overnight journey on the ferry we arrive at the Hook-of-Holland where we will ride onto the traffic-free cycle ways and canal ways for the rest of our trip. Cruising without the complications of traffic control, the scenery quickly changing between urban and rural as we pass rivers, ancient woodland, quiet villages and of course windmills! We will arrive into the bike friendly city streets of Amsterdam late afternoon on Sunday where we will be sure to celebrate our finish and have time to explore this beautiful city.
