DETAILED PROGRAMME

Part 1 - 'CHI VOICE’ with Dylan Bolles - California

FREE 'CHI VOICE’ Public Performance & Group Improvisation Event

Friday 9th December 7-9pm, Venue: London School of Capoeira (studio 1), Unit 1 & 2 Leeds Place, Tollington Park, London, N4 3RF

'I plan to present a sequence of sound scores I developed while studying ‘Lishi’ a Chinese Taoist MindBody/BreathEnergy practice in Davis, California. For this program I will focus on a series called "duets with non-humans" in which I co-create with entities and locations which generally fall outside of the boundaries of what is called human or sentient. My intention is to develop clear structures for training the movement of breath-sound-energy in collaboration with the natural world. These scores continue to change as my practice deepens, and as I share them with others.

Invited local accoustic musicians will join me for a group improvisation during the second half of the performance. Please contact below if you would like to be involved. The public are welcome to immerse themselves in listening during the event or join in vocally, energetically or expressively as felt.'

'CHI VOICE’ Workshop (Minimum Donation £36)

Sunday 11th Dec 12-3pm, St Gabriel's Halls, Glasgow Terrace, Lupus Street, Pimlico, London SW1V 3AA

'My public workshop will focus on group scores designed for diverse gatherings of mixed musical abilities and inclinations. I will begin with some classic scores from American experimental composers such as Cornelius Cardew and Pauline Oliveros and then move in to some of my own works as performed and developed by members of Thingamajigs Performance Group. These scores emphasize listening practices and can be accomplished with any combination of instruments and sounds. Participants are encouraged to bring instruments to experiment with, although nothing but your own voice is required and simply listening is always a welcome form of participation.'

Further VIDEO of Dylan Bolles performing

Dr Dylan Bolles makes performances with people and environments. He designs and constructs new musical instruments, cultivating co-creative relationships based in listening practice. His sound compositions, installations, physical scores, and works on paper are rooted in a shared temporal experience. Dylan holds degrees in music composition from Middlebury College and Mills College. He is the co-founder of thingamajigs, a California non-profit arts organization, and received his doctorate in Performance Studies from University of California, Davis. Dylan's ongoing research projects engage practices and theories of collaboration in performance.
