London Winter Chess Congress and Training Day

Events Open for both adults and juniors. This is a London Junior Chess Championships Qualifying event.

Information

This is a graded chess tournament. Improvers section not graded. Please also note this is not a knockout tournament. All players play in all rounds. Clocks will be used players will have 30 minutes each for all moves. All players will be provided with a certificate. A chess coach will be available to go through games throughout.

There are separate Under 8, Under 10, Under 12 and Under 18 Sections. You must be younger than the section age as at midnight 31st August 2017. These correspond to School Years, i.e. Under 8 is for Year 3 or below, Under 10 for Year 4 or 5, Under 12 for Year 6.


Qualification information

The junior sections is a qualifying tournament for the LJCC.



Sections:

Improvers and Training Days

Players must be Under 12 and this must be one of their first chess tournaments. The day is broken up with rounds and training with an experienced chess coach.

Age limit sections

Under 8 / Under 10 / Under 12
Players must have been under the section age on 31.8.2018. These sections are LJCC Qualifying events.

Grade limit sections
To be determined on the day for both adults and juniors. This tournament is not a qualifier.


Juniors are allowed to enter an older age group if they wish.

The grade limit sections are intended for older juniors or adults but are open to anyone whose grade is below the limit specified.


Entry

Entry fee £25. Standard ticket sales finish midnight on 28th November 2019. On the day entry fee is £40 only if spaces are available as we have limited capacity in the hall.



Tournament Information

Parking is available near the venue. We do not provide any supervision of children between rounds so a responsible adult is advised to stay to look after your children. Light refreshments, teas and coffees will be on sale at the venue.

All players will receive a certificate. Section winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd and Best Girl) will receive trophies and medals. All results will be submitted to the ECF for grading. Cash prizes for graded section dependent on entry.

Ties: Cash prizes will be shared. If there is a tie for a trophy, it will be broken by the sum of progressive scores.

Trophies and cash prizes as soon as possible after the end of Round 6.


The organisers accept no responsibility for any loss, theft or accident during the event. Adult supervision will only be provided in the playing areas. Organisers will be first aid trained. Parents are responsible for their children during the event and agree to the terms and conditions in this entry.

FAQs

What if I want to enter after November 27th 2019?

Due to limited spaces available in the hall, we encourage all to book the tournament early. However, if you have been able to do so please email directly to see if spaces are available.


What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

What's the refund policy?

Refunds available up to 14 days before the tournament. Seven to fourteen days before we will refund your money minus the admin fee.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No.

Are parents allowed in the tournament hall?

Parents are allowed in the tournament hall for prize giving and the introductory talks but they are not allowed in at any other time. However, there will be qualified arbiters and coaches who will be in the tournament hall during playing times.


Is there WiFi available at the venue?

Yes - we will send out the password to parents before the day starts.


Will you try and speed the tournament day up?

Yes - where possible we will speed the day


What is the time control?

30 minutes each on the clock. Each section will have a clock. Juniors who are uncomfortable or do not know how to use the clock they will be shown by arbiters.


What if there are issues in the game?

Disputes need to be settled in the game. Trained and highly experienced arbiters and coaches will be running individual sections.
