About this event
23 September, 6pm – 7pm:
Catriona Paget, C&W Agency
C&W is a dynamic London-based literary agency, who’s team has a stellar reputation for championing talented new voices and nurturing established authors with the passion and dedication every writer deserves. Catriona joined C&W in 2022 as Susan Armstrong’s assistant.
She reads to get into other people's heads, so she is always looking for character-led stories, particularly those in the contemporary or historical book club, upmarket, or literary spaces. She loves reading about unusual character dynamics, or events that rupture the status quo for an individual, relationship, or community. Stories that focus on people grappling with the pressures of societal expectations
She is on the lookout for energetic and life-affirming upmarket contemporary fiction that finds the joy in existence even as it explores the pitfalls of it, and novels that are infused with humour, a witty cast, and brilliantly sharp dialogue. She would also love to see anything that sets sharply contrasting characters on a collision course and dives into the development of their relationship.
Catriona is interested in contemporary literary novels that take a familiar story, such as a love story or coming of age drama, and elevate it into the extraordinary through close character study and while she doesn’t like to read too many stories that are oppressively bleak, she does have a special place in her heart for any novel that can make her cry. She also enjoys sweeping historical literary stories that are based around an unusual setting or concept.
She is not looking to take on any SFF, horror, or YA / children's books.
As well as working closely with Susan on her incredible list, she is also part of the team behind Discoveries; a development programme for unpublished women writers run by Curtis Brown in partnership with the Women’s Prize Trust, Audible and Curtis Brown Creative. She regularly gives editorial feedback to Curtis Brown Creative students as part of their courses and enjoys mentoring new writers through various programs wherever the opportunity presents itself. She is part of the team behind Project North which focuses on expanding our connections with the northern literary and publishing communities.
