The City of London is the beating heart of the economy of the United Kingdom, and a world centre of finance. But what is the story of this phenomenon? How did it come into being?

Co-authored by Vivien Schrager-Powell, this tour takes you along the streets and down the narrow courts where the financial lifeblood of the City first began to circulate.

Coffee houses and moneylenders, telecommunications and the Girobank, the Big Bang itself - all feature on this journey as we follow the financial heartbeat of the City.

Meet in front of the Royal Exchange, Threadneedle Street, by the entrance to Bank Station (Exit 3 if you're coming from the station itself).

The tour finishes approximately two hours later by St Paul's Underground Station.
