About this event

Business • Career

Join us for a fantastic in-person training course with Naomi Korn Associates' Head of Intellectual Property, Sean Waterman, with support from London's Screen Archives, exploring the unique challenges of handling audio-visual material and providing a fantastic opportunity to connect with peers. You’ll learn to navigate the complexities of rights management, understand licensing issues, and assess the risks of using orphan works.

Audio-visual works often carry multiple layers of copyright and rights ownership — are you confident in managing them correctly?

Copyright in audio visual material such as film and sound recordings is complicated due to the layers of rights that need to be considered. This course examines the copyright and other rights issues inherent in audio visual works and how they may be used and licensed.

This intermediate level course is designed for participants who work with film and/or sound recordings. It is designed to help them learn more about how copyright relates to audio visual material. Participants should already have a basic understanding of copyright.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss rights issues specific to broadcasts, films, scripts, music and sound recordings.
  • Examine exceptions to copyright within the context of audio-visual content.
  • Understand the risks of using orphan audio-visual works.
  • Be able to employ rights management terminology to audio-visual works.
  • Examine specific licensing issues associated with rights clearance in audio-visual content.

“It was an excellent, engaging session. Thank you.”

Sarah Wyatt, National Motor Museum Trust, Course Participant 2024
