Description

This illustrated talk by Pete Smith follows the story of a Thames-side fishing village that launched a thousand ships. For four centuries Deptford, which takes its name from a deep ford across the Thames, was a thriving Royal dockyard, equipping such famous commanders as Raleigh, Drake and Nelson, and introducing Russia’s Peter the Great to the mysteries of shipbuilding. Nowadays… but why not come along to find out?
