Explore digital models of the vaults of the Lady Chapel of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and learn about the geometry of Gothic vaults
About this event
Fascinated by architecture? Want to know more about digital scanning and modelling? Come along to our FREE workshops, organised by the University of Liverpool and Liverpool Anglican Cathedral
This is the second of two workshops. You are encouraged to sign up for both but this is not essential.
The workshop will begin with an opportunity to explore the digital models of the vaults of the Lady Chapel derived from the recording undertaken in Workshop 1.
Next, Brian Farrimond (honorary research fellow at Liverpool Edge Hill University) will then introduce 'Cathedral Builder', a digital modelling tool and demonstrate how this can be used to model Gothic vaults. You will be able to build your own model and use this to understand the three-dimensional design of Gothic vaulting.
Dr Alex Buchanan and Dr Nick Webb from the 'Tracing the Past' project at the University of Liverpool will then explore the design of Gothic vaults and show you how to lay out the design of a vault using the tools available to medieval masons.
No knowledge or prior experience is required and all tools and equipment will be provided.
There will be a break half way through and free refreshments will be provided.
