Event description

Description

The Lord Mayor is honoured to host a gala dinner at the Royal Maritime club, in the company of Falklands War Veteran, Simon Weston CBE, who will be making an after dinner speech.

Simon joined the Welsh Guards in 1978, serving in Berlin, Northern Ireland and Kenya, before forming part of the Falklands Task Force. In 1982 he was serving on the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Sir Galahad in Bluff Cove on the Falkland Islands, when it was attacked and destroyed by Argentine aircraft. He received horrific burns to 46%
of his body. Despite these injuries and the physical and mental suffering which they caused, Simon Weston's life is an example of outstanding personal courage and triumph over adversity. Simon’s presentations are powerful, frank, moving and inspiring. He delivers his speeches with passion, wit and charm.

Join the Lord Mayor and the Lady Mayoress for an unforgettable evening of excellent food, company and the best after-dinner speech you may ever be likely to personally witness.
