Description

Join us for an evening with Lord Michael Heseltine

Michael Heseltine was Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State in John Major's government. He previously served in the governments of Margaret Thatcher and Edward Heath.

Lord Heseltine's personal connection to the City of Liverpool is well known. As Environment Secretary, his efforts to reverse the region's decline in the aftermath of the Toxeth riots earned him the nickname 'the Minister for Merseyside'. He was awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool in 2012 for his ongoing commitment to the region.

In recent years, Lord Heseltine has remained politically active. He was an advisor to the Coalition government, producing the blueprint for the establishment of Metro Mayors to deliver more power to city regions. He has also been a fierce and outspoken critic of Brexit since the vote to leave the European Union in June 2016.

Join us as one of the most illustrious figures of contemporary British politics - the man who "was there for Liverpool in its hour of need" - talks about his life and the legacy of the governments in which he served.

Lord Heseltine will be in conversation with Antony Mullen, Convenor of the Thatcher Network.

We will begin at 5pm promtly and ask that guests are seated by 4.45pm. Tickets are free but places are limited. If you are attending the Thatcherism Now conference, you do not need to reserve a place at this event.
