GCU Masterclass Series

About this event

Glasgow Caledonian University’s Masterclass series brings world-class speakers to the University to share expertise and ideas, encouraging discussion and debate. The talks are delivered to students, staff and graduates, as well as the wider community.

For our first Masterclass of 2022, we welcome Scottish businessman, philanthropist, and Chair of City Facilities Management Holdings Ltd, Lord Willie Haughey OBE.

Inspired to make a positive change to the facilities management industry, Lord and Lady Haughey established City Refrigeration Holdings Ltd in 1985. Building long-term partnerships, City has grown from humble beginnings to serve over 15,000 sites globally in a variety of sectors including retail, healthcare and commercial property, and employs over 14,000 staff. City has committed to being a net-zero carbon business by 2040.

Born in the Gorbals in Glasgow, Lord Haughey is passionate about giving back, and helping others, both at home and overseas. Since setting up the City Charitable Trust in 2002, Lord and Lady Haughey have donated millions to support the relief of poverty and the advancement of education, health, the arts and heritage.

Awarded an OBE in 2003, and knighted in the 2012 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to business and philanthropy, GCU is proud that Lord Haughey also accepted an honorary doctorate from the University in 2005.

Join us on 9th February 2022 at 5.30pm, to hear about Lord Haughey’s exceptional career journey, including his new vision to build 11,000 affordable and sustainable homes in Scotland, as well as what drives his entrepreneurial flair and commitment to helping others.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A. You can submit your question(s) in advance or via the Q&A functionality on the day.

Details on how to join this live event will be sent to those registered 48 hours prior to the event starting.
