At COP27 in Egypt this past November, a special fund for loss and damage was agreed. This was seen as the key outcome of the COP, but what does it mean for addressing climate change? What is loss? What is damage? And how can people be compensated for these?

Come along to this event to:

meet people who are concerned about climate change,
learn more about the loss and damage fund, and
help create an artwork that captures anxieties around what we may lose and damage because of climate change.

We will provide a short briefing and then have small group discussions that are informed by everyday experiences and by what we imagine might be lost due to climate change, including in our own futures.

Our discussions will be fed back to artist Andy Council, who will be at the event making preliminary sketches and ultimately (post-event) creating a beautiful and moving work of art that can be shared with policy makers, community groups, and NGOs fighting for climate justice.

Although these conversations aren't always easy, it is a space to express eco-anxiety and discuss solutions - if there is a fund for loss and damage, what should be the priority of such a fund? Can we be compensated for losses, or should we be emboldened to ensure such losses are minimized? What does a future where loss and damage is compensated for look like?

Hosted by Dr Alix Dietzel from the Cabot Institute for the Environment, the event will be facilitated by climate change experts from around the UK and is being delivered in partnership with the UK Universities Climate Network.
