Event description

Description

As creative advertising educators, students and practitioners we have a problem. Despite the fact 60% of people studying creative advertising, art and design courses are female, women only make up 30% of advertising agency creative departments. Up to 50% of qualified female talent is lost between Higher Education and entry to industry. We all want to foster diversity and inclusion in education and industry, and give every student an equal opportunity. We all want to save these Lost Girls. So, let's get together and do something about it!

This event is of interest to all educators and students on creative advertising, art and design courses at Higher Education Institutions, as well as people working in advertising who want to achieve a more equal gender balance in their creative departments. The aim of this event is to connect key people in education and industry to initiate change, and raise awareness of small things we can all do in our everyday practice that could make a real difference.

There will be a presentation of original primary research within industry and education that identifies the reasons why we lose female graduate talent, and proposes new educational and industry strategies to tackle it. The research has been conducted by Kathryn Ellis, Planning Director at McCann Bristol, as part of her MA in Creative and Media Education at Bournemouth University.

Also speaking will be Ali Hanan, Founder of Creative Equals, and Fabiana, President of She Says LDN. They will present all the wonderful schemes and support they can provide for female students who want to get into and get on in creative departments.
