About this event

Join us at Kelvin Hall for a talk and screening looking at the lost buildings of Glasgow as part of Doors Open Day and Glasgow 850

Joseph Sharples, Hunterian Curator of Mackintosh and Applied Art and Design Collections, will talk about three demolished buildings - the 1888 International Exhibition building, the University of Glasgow’s Old College and 78 Southpark Avenue, where Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh lived from 1906 to 1914.

Glasgow is an encyclopaedia of lost and forgotten buildings, and stories. Join Norry Wilson, of Lost Glasgow, as he explores some corners of the disappearing city.

This will be followed by Liam Paterson, Assistant Curator at the National Library of Scotland who will screen a curated selection of found footage showcasing Glasgow’s architecture past and present.

This event can be attended in-person or online via live stream.

Organized by

At the heart of the University of Glasgow since 1807, The Hunterian connects people with stories, individuals and ideas found in stunning collections of objects, belongings and artworks.

Today The Hunterian is a space for questioning and experimentation, for enjoyment and enrichment, for connection and collaboration and for reflecting on the role museums and individuals can play in furthering equity, justice and diversity in our society.

We actively work to make The Hunterian a more relevant and meaningful place – for University students and staff, for Glaswegians, for Scots and for our global visitors.
