Background

LOTI held two workshops to explore the digital inclusion issues in London.

In workshop 1, we first sought to identify personas / specific groups of individuals who would be better off if we acted before moving on to exploring problems and barriers preventing the outcomes for each persona from being realised.

In workshop 2, we first heard from Susan McFarland-Lyons (Hackney) about the benefits of sharing and reusing methods, tools, approaches for bridging the digital divide, and the Digi Leaders event, where borough came together to share projects / products they've developed to bridge the digital divide. We then moved on to developing ideas for actions we could take to support residents in accessing digital services, particularly cohorts who are hard to identify or reach.

Purpose

This webinar is listed as one of the actions that came out of the two workshops. In this webinar, LOTI seeks to support boroughs to explore ways in which they can use the social value provision of large contracts to directly support and help fund local digital inclusion initiatives.

In this workshop, boroughs will hear from Dan Ebanks from Social Value Exchange, and organisation that seeks to put community needs at the heart of public tenders. Community projects are 'auctioned'—organisations competing for government tenders bid resources and can win the auction by offering the most, to get maximum tender points.

This webinar is intended for anyone working in London's local government with an interest in holding suppliers to account and utilising the social value clauses in future contracts.
