Local author Chris Nickson will be talking about his most recent publication about Lottie Armstrong, one of the first policewomen in Leeds, plus reading some excerpts from the book.

It’s 1924 and Lottie Armstrong has to investigate the disappearance of a young, pregnant girl – she has no idea she’ll become part of a murder investigation – something normally off limits to WPCS.

But the trail takes her from the back streets to the parlours of the rich, into the shadows of the gay and lesbian community and out where money speaks loudly. Very modern crimes are committed, but the impulses are as old as the ages. Lottie has another problem, too: for a woman in a man’s world, intelligence can be seen as very threatening and initiative as defying discipline. Lottie can solve the case – but will the powers-that-be give her the chance?
