The development of children emotionally, socially and spiritually is consistently linked to the quality of love they receive in early childhood. This, and current interest in "professional love", provides the exciting backdrop to our day.
Our key note speaker, Dr Keith J White, Director of Mill Grove, will start our day with his invaluable insight into children, theology, love and development. Keith, along with his wife Ruth, is responsible for the residential community at Mill Grove. Caring for children who have experienced separation and loss, he is an expert in the literature of child development and psychiatry. Currently, Keith is an Associate Lecturer at Spurgeon’s College and Visiting Lecturer in Child Theology at the Malaysian Baptist Theological Seminary. He is Chair of the Child Theology Movement, and Children Webmag, and founder of the Christian Child Care Forum. Further information, his biography and published books can be found here.
There will be a further range of practical seminars to explore how we reclaim education for God in our daily work with young children. There is something here for everyone to learn and explore.
Professional Love. Keith White, director of Mill Grove. In 2014 Professor Jools Page coined the term "professional love". She led research into the affection and care that young children need, and asked how professionals feel about "loving" the children in their care. Interest in this term has grown since her research project, and Keith will help us explore how our view of Christian love sits with a concept of professional love.
Godly Play. Andrea Harrison, Godly Play Trainer, and Dani Redhead, Godly Play Advocate. Come and play! This session will allow you to experience how children can move into larger dimensions of belief and faith through the use of story telling, play and wondering.
Management Matters. Allison Jones, manager of Treasure Children Forever and Jo Gilks, Early Years Adviser to Sparrows Childcare. Together they will explore the tricky questions that managers face every day.
Spirituality and Play. Lucy Waterman, Early Years lecturer. For many years she was part of the Bouncies leadership team (3-4 year-olds) at Faith Camp, caring for 150 young children across the week. This session will explore how the connection between spirituality and play is key to understanding how young children connect with God and develop a relationship with Him.
What Really Matters. Judith Twani, regional development manager for Early Excellence and an inspiring and motivating trainer. A session with Jude is an unforgettable and wonderful experience! This will lead into our celebration, prayer time and launch of the Love Early Years name.
All sessions will make connections with the EYFS and how we embed a Christian ethos into our work with young children.
