Love Letters to Cinema: Screening & Exhibition (Bristol)
Date and time
A hybrid international film festival celebrating storytelling excellence from Africa and the diaspora.
About this event
UK award-winning film exhibition company We Are Parable and Kenya-based Manyatta Screenings have collaborated to bring you Love Letters to Cinema. An innovative, month-long hybrid event taking place July 2022 in Kenya, the UK and online, designed to bring together films from both regions via film screenings, conversations and exhibitions.
We Are Parable and Manyatta Screenings, along with filmmaker Wanjeri Gakuru, have collaboratively curated a series of short films that establish a conversation between Britain, Kenya and the wider East African region.
On 23 & 24 July, we will be at Bristol's Malcolm X Community Centre for our final in-person screenings of the programme and an accompanying exhibition showcasing key elements from each film, from shot lists and scripts to props and storyboards, creating a unique experience for audiences.
Located in St Pauls, The Malcolm X Community Centre is at the heart of Bristol’s African Caribbean community. During the Windrush era, the first generation of Caribbean immigrants moved to St Pauls, making it a significant hub for the Black community. With more than 91 languages spoken, the suburb is now one of the most diverse places in the city. Find out more: www.mxccbristol.com
