Description
Love my River Project - Free Public Lecture.
DOORS: 7PM TALK STARTS: 7.30PM
Pete Attwood - Volunteer & Training Co-ordinator at Groundwork.
Love my River Project currently runs in the Northwich area, working with the community to raise awareness of local rivers and watercourses and involve people in looking after them.
Local volunteers help to investigate the condition of the river and take part in practical action to improve them. This includes walkover surveys which identify particular problems, citizen science including chemical, physical and biological testing on water quality to support the Environment Agency and conservation work, and practical action such as tree planting, litter picks, and controlling invasive non-native species.
In 2018/19 the Love My River Project is expanding into the Nantwich area, and developing partnerships, projects and funding proposals in the area, with further volunteering and student opportunities.
Pete Attwood completed his degree on Environmental Studies and Geography, worked as a countryside ranger in Greater Manchester, and has a long history of volunteering for various conservation and countryside projects in the North West. After 18 years working with BTCV, Pete moved to his current role at Groundwork Cheshire in 2014, overseeing the development of the Grozone community garden and wildlife reserve in Northwich. Pete’s expertise lies in applying national conservation and sustainable land management policies to a local context. Pete has experience with volunteer management, creating partnerships, working with landowners and fundraising for projects. Pete has completed a number of projects with Reaseheath students and will continue this working relationship with upcoming Love My River activities and associated projects developed through Reaseheath, RADA amd Farm Environmental Services.
