Event description
Join Love Sober's Kate + Mandy and artist Sharon Walters for an afternoon of Creativity + Conversation. No previous experience required.

About this Event

Join us for the second addition of Create & Thrive for an afternoon of connection, conversation and creativity. Together we will explore questions of identity, mental health and sobriety.

The workshop will be divided into two parts. Firstly we will introduce our topic Creativity and Wellbeing in Sobriety when we will talk about our own journeys and how creativity has been an important tool in our sober tool kits. Creativity, play, flow and mindfulness are super important tools for wellbeing scientifically proven to boost happiness and therefore have to go in that toolkit!

Then Sharon will lead the main session: a relaxing, creative, hands-on workshop where you can get working with art and collage as she shares how imperative being sober is to both her mental health and creative practice. ‘Seeing Ourselves’ explores identity, beauty standards and race through hand assembled collage. Using magazines and photographs she is inspired by botanical, natural beauty and urban scenes. Each collage is a reaffirmation of the right to ‘take up space’ even when you don’t see yourself.

10% of profits going to Agenda alliance for women and girls at risk https://weareagenda.org/.

NB. This is a small event with limited spaces to facilitate the quality and the opportunity for intimacy and interaction we would like to provide. Limited tickets are available.

About Sharon Walters :

Sharon Walters is a west-London based artist who has been sober for 7 months. Sharon has led a number of collage workshops and is an experienced artist educator of over 20 years. After graduating with a second degree, this time in Fine Art from Central St Martins in London in 2011, she has developed her practice and continued her work with community arts organisations and museums.

Both her art practice and work in the heritage sector aims to provide platforms for those under-represented in the mainstream.

Her current series ‘Seeing Ourselves’ explores identity, beauty standards and race through hand assembled collage. Using magazines and photographs she is inspired by botanical, natural beauty and urban scenes and the beauty of natural afro hair.

Her use of simple source materials, a craft scalpel and quite often an A4 cutting mat means you too can continue this craft from the comfort of your own home. Each collage is a reaffirmation of the right to ‘take up space’ even when you don’t see yourself.

About Love Sober:

Kate Baily: is a life coach specialising in sobriety and self-care, author, journalist and mum of two.

Mandy Manners: is a recovery coach-in-training, public speaker and author, she is also a mum of two.

www.lovesober.com is the hub for coaching, writing, events and LoveSober the podcast for the sober and sober curious. Kate and Mandy will also soon host the community & coaching platform Love Sober Life on Mighty Networks.

Love Sober the podcast launched in May 2018 to fill a gap in the market: not to talk about addiction but to talk about problematic drinking, binge drinking and self-medicating depression and anxiety.

“We wanted to have the conversation as mums, discuss how we had bought into the “wine o’clock/mummy needs wine” market and how detrimental that had been to us both as women and also as parents.”

It is a friendly, comforting conversation for people who feel like their drinking has become unmanageable, destructive or problematic. The aim is to do qualitative episodes on key themes of self-care, motherhood, mental health and sobriety, also to invite inspirational speakers and real life sober heros and sheroes to share their stories. The podcast is one spoke in the wheel which LoveSober aims to produce to help people build strong and sustainable self-care practices and love themselves sober.
