About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Himalayan Balsam in an invasive, non-native plant that was introduced in 1839. Since then it has spread across the country and is prolific in wetlands, where it likes to grow.

We will be removing the plants in an area of Low Barns Nature Reserve to prevent the delicate and important native flora from dying out.

Minimal experience is needed as identification is easy and will be explained fully on the day.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and, as we will be working in potentially damp areas, a pair of good boots or wellies is essential (trainers are not suitable).

Please bring gloves if you have them and plenty of water if the weather is warm.

There are toilets and a café on site (lunch won’t be provided).

Meet in the car park at Low Barns Nature Reserve near Witton-Le-Wear at 10:30am.

Suitable for ages 12 years+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
