Low: Jeet Thayil in conversation
Event Information
About this Event
‘Jeet Thayil delights not just in pushing the bounds of possibility, but in smashing them to smithereens’
—John Burnside
Join Booker Prize-shortlisted author of Narcopolis Jeet Thayil as he sits down with author and literary critic Chris Power (Mothers) to discuss his highly-anticipated new novel Low.
Thayil takes us on a kaleidoscopic trip through the streets of Bombay, through the allure of its shapeshifting nightlife, as he discusses the hedonistic misadventure his grief-stricken protagonist embarks upon in the wake of his wife’s death. Looking at our—often delayed—acceptance of grief, Thayil will also discuss his exploration of the nature of self-destruction, and how our reaction to personal pain can manifest itself in excesses, bordering on the extreme.
The event will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
