Event description
For our final chapter of the Book Fair we’re thrilled to welcome the writer Kerry Hudson to chat working class voices, community & more...

About this Event

Kerry Hudson is one of our favourite writers, a wordsmith with award winning novels and a bestselling memoir under her belt, and a tireless advocate for working class narratives and writer solidarity.

Lowborn: Growing Up, Getting Away and Returning to Britain’s Poorest Towns is a powerful, personal work on poverty. Proudly working-class but never proudly poor, Kerry Hudson revisits the towns all over the UK, including in the North East, where she grew up, and reflects on what being poor really means in Britain today.

We’ll chatting about the new book, but also about working class writing more widely, cultural gate keepers, fiction and community, and those emerging storytellers we should all get excited about!

The Roxy bar will be open, we'll have teapots ready - it's the perfect end to four days of community building, reflection and action.
