Lower Hurston Work Party
The site is home to the Marsh Fritillary butterfly, along with other species such as the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary. It is botanically rich, featuring an abundance of Devil’s-bit Scabious and Marsh Violet.
The main task will be to remove encroaching bracken and invasive willow and birch to maintain open pasture. This will allow more light to reach the ground, encouraging key food plants to thrive.
We’ll be using saws, scythes, tree poppers, and loppers to cut back vegetation, followed by raking and piling of the cut vegetation, which may be disposed of via a controlled fire.
While tools will be provided, you’re welcome to bring your own, especially in the event of a larger-than-expected turnout.
