Lowland Search Planner
This course provides a solid foundation for planning the immediate and initial phases of a missing person incident.
The course is introduces a framework for managing search operations and involves classroom time spent learning and undertaking a variety of tabletop exercises (4 of which are assessed) to simulate missing person emergencies, all based mainly upon real life incidents from the teams 35 years of operations.
The course covers the following subjects
- The professional role of the Search Management team, the Planner and Operations officers
- Phases of search
- Missing Person Behaviour
- Collecting, developing and analysing information
- Creating Scenarios
- Writing Search plans (deployment taskings and investigative questions)
- The use of resources, documention and mapping, the information cycle
Candidates from ALSAR teams should ideally have good experience of operational searches. The course is also suitable for operational Police Officers who would have responsibility for managing the immediate and initial stages of a missing person search.
Candidates from ALSAR teams who pass the course will be placed on the ALSAR national register of search planners and can work towards a Skills for Justice certification in Lowland Search Management.
The course is based at Easthampstead Park Conference Centre and is taught by a team of highly experienced Search Planners and Managers. Berkshire Lowland SAR is approved by ALSAR to run SAR courses.
ALSAR Teams: The course costs £55 which is payable in advance.
Non ALSAR: The course costs £150 which is payable in advance.
The course has residential options for those who require it (please contact us about this) but does not include catering. You will need to bring your own food but you can also partake of the many excellent fast food establishments that surround the Bracknell/Wokingham area.

Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue
Berkshire Lowland Search and Rescue searches for missing children and vulnerable adults.
Our primary role is to provide specialist resources to Thames Valley Police to assist in the Search & Rescue of vulnerable missing people in Berkshire.
We are the oldest Lowland SAR team in the UK and developed many of the orginal Lowland SAR courses that are still in use today. We pride ourselves on providing high quality SAR courses to our ALSAR colleagues.
