Event description

Description

Join us for a screening of José Luis Cuerda's The Butterfly's Tongue, presented by Pete Ayrton, editor of No Pasarán: Writings from the Spanish Civil War.

Adapted from a trio of short fictions by Manuel Rivas, The Butterfly's Tongue is a Galician coming-of-age tale that follows the friendship between Moncho, a senstive young schoolboy, and his teacher Don Gregorio, in the shadow of the Spanish Civil War. Variety called it ‘penetrating and compassionate, showing how basic issues of survival can lie behind immoral behavior’.

The evening will be hosted by Gareth Evans, film curator at the Whitechapel Gallery.
