Event description
Support the nation's budding classicists - hear four outstanding presentations on the ancient world and vote in the People's Choice Award!

About this Event

Join the audience and support the UK's budding classicists as they share which characters from the ancient world they would invite to a party, and why! On Saturday 7th March 2020, hear four outstanding presentations from the Finalists, selected from a shortlist of student video entries from across the nation.

This free event, open to all and generously sponsored by the Classical Association, will allow you to support these bright and passionate young people as they bid to be crowned Classics Champion and receive the prestigious trophy, certificates and a share of £400 prize money. There will also be the chance for the audience to have their say as there will be a special award for the speaker who is the People's Choice!

Come along and get to know some fascinating characters from the ancient world and plan your own fictional party - which combination of guests would you find the most intriguing? Some witty banter with Aristophanes, or Socrates holding court at a symposium? A sneak peak at the political decisions planned by the Triumvirate over a glass of wine? Imagine the tensions at a divine banquet with Aphrodite, Ares and Hera or what Agamemnon really wanted to say to Clytemnestra and Aegisthus...

Time and space are no barriers to the imagination - perhaps you'd like to hear a conversation between three great leaders, such as Cleopatra, Alexander the Great and Hadrian. If you're 11-19, you have until the 6th February to submit your ideas as a video entry - for more information on the Competition and for all the details of how to enter, see: https://lsaclassics.com/guidelines-2/.

The Competition will be judged by Dr Arlene Holmes-Henderson, of the Advocating Classics Education Project, Kings College London.

Doors open at 1:15pm for a 2pm start. Refreshments and ample free car parking available. To become a member of the Lytham St Annes Classical Association and access seven first-class lectures on classical topics each year, visit https://lsaclassics.com/join-us/.
