Event description

Description

The UKIC Annual Conference is a fixture in the London Stansted Cambridge Corridor diary. It examines economic development issues for the whole geography, and brings together public and private sector stakeholders to discuss how the region's future can be protected and enhanced.

Attendees include those from local and national government current and potentia investors and employers in the region, and the many consultants and contractors with local expertise who help them contribute to economic growth.

This year, we will be taking a look at progress since our Growth Commission Report in 2016, and discussing what actions we can collaboratively take to ensure continuing inclusive growth.

Topics will include:

A Prospectus for Growth

The report of the LSCC independent commission in 2016 provided a clear ambition for the UK’s Innovation Corridor – to be one of the world’s foremost regions for life sciences and tech.

So, how is the UK’s Innovation Corridor performing against its main competitors in the US, Europe and the Far East? And what can we do to ensure more progress toward our joint vision?

Developing a responsive and inclusive skills system in the UK Innovation Corridor

This session will discuss how the skills system can be improved to meet the needs of employers, to develop excellence amongst existing workers, and attract and encourage young people from all backgrounds and localities within the Corridor into jobs in life sciences, technology, IT and professional services.

Financing the infrastructure we need

This session will consider the vital infrastructure the Innovation Corridor needs to sustain and ameliorate rapid economic and population growth and reinforce resilience for users and consumers.

We will discuss how transport, energy, utilities and communication networks could be accelerated, mirroring the way schemes in other states and jurisdictions have dealt with raising the necessary backing and investment.
