We are pleased to invite you to LSE’s first Election Observation Conference, sponsored by the LSE Annual Fund. Election Observation missions are conducted by international organisations aiming to ensure adherence to good democratic standards globally. They are invited by host-countries to monitor local, national, parliamentary or presidential elections. Election observers are deployed to short and long-term missions and are responsible for monitoring fairness in campaigning, impartiality of state institutions and actors, among other expected good practices.

The LSE Election Observation Conference brings together experienced election observers from reputable international institutions with the purpose of;

  1. Creating a space for discussion between election observation experts and social science and humanities students.

  2. Facilitating exchange of ideas across different international organisations.

  3. Introducing election observation as a career path to social science and humanities students.

The conference will be of interest to election experts, social science and humanities students with theoretical groundings, as well as members of the public. The programme has a strong regional focus, with panels addressing elections in the US, the Sub-Saharan Africa, Turkey and Russia.
