Description

Black Ascent aims to bring together a diverse panel of high achieving people of African and Caribbean descent from an array of professional and personal backgrounds to discuss navigating the corporate and creative world while black. The conference will involve a 2-hour panel discussion with a 30-minute interval for performances by upcoming young black artists. The event is open to the public.

This year, the LSESU ACS is proud to welcome the following panelists:

Lord Michael Hastings - Baron Hastings of Scarisbrick CBE, is KPMG International's Global Head of Corporate Citizenship. He was previously the BBC's Head of Public Affairs and then the first Head of Corporate Responsibility.

JJ Bola - A Kinshasa born, London raised writer, poet, and educator. JJ Bola published three books of poetry Elevate (2012) and Daughter of the Sun (2014). His third, WORD (2015) is his most comprehensive poetry collection. His debut novel, No Place to Call Home (OWN IT, 2017), is available in all mainstream and independent bookstores, in Hardback and e-Book, nationwide, and internationally.

Yomi Adegoke - A journalist, producer and author who is currently co-authoring 'Slay In Your Lane: The Black Girl Bible', a guide to life for a generation of black British women inspired to make Lemonade out of lemons, à la Beyonce.

Charles Sekwalor - CEO and Founder of Movemeback, a members’ community of top global talent, leaders and influencers, interested in Africa. A a serial entrepreneur with a strong passion for driving positive change in the world through the application of business principles and bringing together talented people to solve complex problems.

Joanna Abeyie - As managing Director of Hyden, Joanna Abeyie, has championed, supported and trained over 3,000 people from diverse backgrounds.
