Event description

Description

Robin and Lucienne Day hold a unique place in 20th century design history. For nearly seven decades they pursued independent careers alongside each other, both making major contributions to British design.
A virtuoso pattern-maker and colourist, Lucienne Day made her career breakthrough with the pioneering design Calyx for the Festival of Britain in 1951. In the next twenty-five years she went on to design more than seventy textiles for Heal's, as well as table-linen, wallpapers, carpets and ceramics for numerous companies in Britain and abroad. In the 1980s / 1990s she created a 'second career' as a designer of hand-stitched silk mosaics which were commissioned and exhibited all over the world.
The talk will be opened with a filmed interview with Robin and Lucienne Day's daughter Paula Day, who will talk about her mother's design process and mutual influence.
