Overview

Learn how to recognise signs of domestic abuse, respond by holding safe and effective conversations and refer people to Make a Change.

Join us for a one-hour online Lunch and Learn session hosted by Make a Change, in collaboration with Newcastle City Council. This informative session is designed to help you:

  • Recognise the signs that an adult may be using harmful behaviours in intimate relationships
  • Respond by holding safe and effective conversations
  • Refer individuals to Make a Change for further support

Domestic abuse is a significant issue in our society, and everyone has a role to play in addressing it. If your role involves building relationships with people, you may have experienced that ‘gut feeling’ that something isn't right or witnessed concerning behaviour. This session will equip you with the knowledge to respond safely and effectively to these situations and make appropriate referrals. Additionally, you will learn about local services available for further advice and support.

About Make a Change:

The Make a Change programme gets to the root of the problem by working with the person who is using abusive behaviour (known in the sector as perpetrators). It’s a free, local programme for anyone over 18 in Newcastle, who is concerned that they might be hurting, scaring or controlling their partner. Over the course of the programme, participants are supported by a specialist to understand how harmful behaviours can be abusive and learn to develop healthy relationships. Partners and ex-partners of the participants are also offered separate, confidential support. Developed by Respect in partnership with Women's Aid Federation England, Make a Change is delivered in Newcastle by Harbour and Changing Lives.
